MOBILAIR Takes a Step Towards European Impact: Preparatory Meeting for the CIVITAS FORUM 2026 Workshop
On 12 March 2026, an important preparatory meeting took place at the City Hall of Thessaloniki, bringing together the Municipality of Thessaloniki, ClimaNet, and ICLEI. The purpose? To lay the groundwork for a major workshop at the CIVITAS FORUM 2026, taking place in Thessaloniki this September.
ClimaNet is the non-profit network representing the six Greek cities selected for the EU Mission “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities”: Thessaloniki, Athens, Trikala, Kozani, Ioannina and Kalamata, as well as Limassol, Cyprus. The meeting resulted in a first outline of the workshop’s objectives and structure, marking a concrete step towards bringing MOBILAIR’s findings to a broader European audience.
What the workshop will cover
The CIVITAS FORUM 2026 workshop will take MOBILAIR’s experience in Thessaloniki as its starting point, exploring two central themes:
– The use of various digital assets to understand and then influence urban mobility behaviour
– The impact of digital information and nudging strategies in engaging citizens and shifting their mobility habits
Special attention will be given to how research results can be deployed at full scale to maximise city-wide impact. At least one best practice from another European city will be presented alongside MOBILAIR’s approach.
An open conversation among cities
The highlight of the workshop will be an open round-table discussion designed to spark a meaningful brainstorm among city representatives. Participants will explore questions such as:
– What are current mobility patterns in our cities? How entrenched is car culture?
– What have previous attempts to engage citizens in green mobility choices taught us?
– What strategies could more effectively shift citizens’ behaviour towards sustainable mobility and how can digital tools help?
– What methods can cities use to maximise their impact at scale?
