MOBILAIR at the ITS European Congress 2026, Istanbul: AI, Air Quality, and the Future of Smart Mobility
MOBILAIR was proud to be represented at the ITS European Congress 2026 in Istanbul, one of Europe’s most prominent and influential forums on intelligent transport systems. The Congress brought together leading researchers, industry experts, and policymakers from across the continent to advance the dialogue on the future of smart, sustainable urban mobility.
Our engagement at this year’s Congress was multifaceted, spanning two distinct sessions:
Session TP1: Demand management, behaviour change & inclusive mobility Our colleague Vassilis Mizaras presented a scientific paper entitled “Integrating Air Quality and Mobility Data for Sustainable User Behavioral Choices in Thessaloniki”. The paper outlines how MOBILAIR combines real-time air quality measurements with mobility data to nudge citizens towards healthier and more sustainable travel decisions, a concrete example of evidence-based behaviour change in an urban setting.
Session SIS58: Next-gen transport & mobility management: High quality curated data for successfully working AI models MOBILAIR was also featured with a presentation titled “Use Case Air Quality: requirements for adapting data from other sectors for specific mobility related use cases supported by AI”. This contribution explored the data quality and interoperability challenges involved in repurposing environmental sensor data for AI-powered mobility applications, a critical, often underappreciated aspect of building reliable intelligent transport systems.
Taken together, these two contributions reflect the depth of MOBILAIR’s research agenda: from understanding and influencing user behaviour, to the technical foundations that make AI-powered mobility solutions trustworthy and effective.
As a project, MOBILAIR is proud to contribute to these critical European-level discussions, sharing the lessons learned from Thessaloniki with a broader community of cities and practitioners. The road to smart, sustainable cities runs through collaboration, and events like the ITS European Congress are where that collaboration takes shape.
