MOBILAIR goes global: AUTH presents at the China–Greece Online Workshop on Atmospheric Science, Environmental Modelling & Urban Air Quality
On 26 May 2026, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) organized the China-Greece Online Workshop “Atmospheric Science, Environmental Modelling & Urban Air Quality,” held in collaboration with Nanjing University’s School of Atmospheric Science and Shanghai University’s School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering. The workshop was carried out under the framework of MOBILAIR, supported by the ICLEI European Secretariat GmbH through the ACTION FUND GREECE programme.
The online event brought together researchers from AUTH’s School of Mechanical Engineering and School of Physics, alongside colleagues from Nanjing and Shanghai, to exchange work on atmospheric processes, urban environmental assessment, and advanced air-quality modelling. The programme included presentations on topics ranging from regional emissions modelling and stratospheric ozone variability in East Asia, to allergenic pollen estimation, low-cost sensor network imputation, heatwave trend analysis, and PM2.5 source apportionment.
AUTH’s contribution centered on MOBILAIR’s methodological developments: Konstantinos Diakakis presented “AI-Enhanced Urban Air Quality Modeling in Thessaloniki: The MOBILAIR project,” covering the project’s AI-based air-quality modelling and inverse modelling approaches for estimating the contribution of traffic emissions to urban air pollution. Serafeim Kontos also introduced the research capabilities of AUTH’s Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics in urban air quality, heat, and health risk modelling.
